Become an Alpha Male and Quit Smoking Cigarettes

The benefits of not smoking far outweigh the benefits of smoking. In fact are there actually any benefits when smoking? The answer is no and if you are thinking about quitting then it is better to do it sooner rather than later. However, smoking can be very difficult to give up especially when you have been doing it for a number of years. Smoking is addictive due to the substance nicotine which is contained in tobacco, which can take control of your body and mind. Knowing how to quit smoking cigarettes is the first step into taking control of your life.

 

It has been proven that each cigarette you smoke can take between five and 20 minutes off your life span. Add this up with every cigarette you smoke and you are talking about a large chunk of your life being wiped out, just because you smoke.

 

Smoking weakens your immune system, gives you bad breath, aging skin, yellow teeth, and fertility problems and dramatically increases the risk of being infected by deadly diseases such as lung cancer.

 

There are lots of methods out there that can help you quit smoking and many types of medication that can be prescribed. The most common medications include nicotine replacements such as nicotine patches, gums, inhalers etc.

 

The problem with such medication is that only really deals with the body aspects of smoking. Smoking is an addiction that not only affects the body but also affects the MIND!

 

Your mind is the hardest element to control when it comes to quitting smoking. Many smokers believe that their happiness and relief of daily stress comes from smoking. The hardest part to tackle is convincing you that this is not the case. Once you can break these connections, you will be able to handle daily stresses without depending on cigarettes.

 

If you have decided that you want to quit smoking then you should do it straight away. There is never a good time to quit and you can always make excuses why you can’t quit now. Maybe you have a stressful week ahead or going to the pub on the weekend. The truth is to quit you need to WANT to quit.

 

I quit a few years ago now and I feel much better for it. Below is how I successfully quit smoking, hopefully it will work for you.

 

1) Be ready to quit smoking.

 

I knew I was ready to quit smoking and I had many reasons to. I could feel my fitness levels deteriorating which affected my gym sessions and my performance in bed. I constantly had a cough which was not only annoying me, but also others around me. I had low energy levels, making it hard to get out of bed in the mornings and stay awake in the afternoons. I also had enough of the cost which seemed to keep increasing at the end of every tax year. All these negatives made me READY to quit smoking.

 

2) Finding a method for how to quit.

 

I have tried many methods in the past. The problem is there are so many to choose from. Some techniques work for some people but not for others. I started out using nicotine patches but I didn’t last long with them. I then tried nicotine gum but I still found myself smoking by the time the weekend came. I then tried nicotine tablets that you put underneath your tongue and let it dissolve. The taste of the nicotine coming out of these tablets was so disgusting that I would find myself smoking as a cigarette tasted better. It was here when I decided that no medication was going to help me quit, and that is where point three comes into play.

 

3) Mind over Matter

 

One day after trying to quit and spending money on all these medications, I decided that the only way to quit smoking is to change my mindset.  I picked up my pack of 20 cigarettes that I bought the night before, got a pair of scissors and cut the pack to shreds. I went cold turkey and since then I have never looked back.  Nicotine is a drug and to get it out of your system you needed to detoxify. Nicotine is out of your system after three days and after that it is battling the habit of picking up a cigarette and lighting up which can be difficult but not impossible. I drank lots of water and kept myself active to preoccupy my mind. I stayed away from alcohol for a week so I wasn’t tempted, and tried to get as much sleep as possible. When I went outside for fresh air I ate a piece of fruit and went for a walk. After about two weeks I found my cravings had gone, and I treated myself to a weekend away with the money I had saved.
